caught in fishermen's net

These Leather-back turtles were nesting females, coming to shore to lay eggs at Matura Beach on the east coast of Trinidad. The period of March through September are nesting months for leatherback turtles in T&T. Isn't it about time the Trinidad & Tobago Government declare the region in this sacred season OFF LIMIT For FISHERMEN?

Apparently there is an existing law for the protection of the species under the Wildlife and Fisheries Acts. How this is enforced coupled with the gallant efforts by local nature conservationists is another matter.

We have carelessly discarded the ways of our predecessors and yet exclaim in desperation when calamity visits.
