female wings in winds of Change
Matilda Joslyn Gage editor:
"In tribute to a phenomena sweeping Latin America and the Caribbean...precipitated by extraordinary circumstances catapulting female leaders into power..... "
In Jamaica we have seen the rise of the new Political leader of the ruling People's National Party's and now Prime Minister Hon. Portia Simpson Miller.
In Trinidad & Tobago, another historic moment as the Opposition party-United National Congress yesterday selected a woman to lead , as a result of the incarceration of their Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Hon. Basdeo Panday.
She is Opposition MP Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
As Attorney General she was Second in the Cabinet, 1996-99 Minister of Legal Affairs, 1999-2001 Minister of Education. She became the first woman ever in the country to act for the Prime Minister in September 2000 . In 2001 she was again appointed Attorney General, before the UNC regime rule was supplanted by a stalemate elections result.
