MAY THE ANCESTORS BE PLEASED WITH HIS EFFORTS

I was a student of Dr. Baptiste when he was a visiting professor at Oberlin College. I was terribly saddened to hear of his passing.
Of all the teachers I had at any level, Fitzroy was far and away my favorite. He changed the course of my life. It is difficult for me to put into words the admiration I have for the man. Nothing would be adequate.
He had a natural grace. He was profoundly informed. I will always remember his mischievous sense of humor most of all.
I'm a teacher myself now, and each day I enter my own classroom, I remember Dr. Fitzroy A. Baptiste. In my own small way I hope I am able to pass his wisdom down to my own students.
To Dr. Baptiste's family, friends and colleagues, I offer my most sincere condolences in what I am certain must be a time of greatest sorrow.
My husband and I were both students of Dr Baptiste in the early 1980s at the UWI, St Augustine. We both found that he was empathetic and very supportive. We were reminiscing a few days ago about him in particular little aware of his passing in 2007. He will always live in our hearts.
